【活性炭的物理性能】：
1.颗粒尺寸：粉状炭一般多在80-200目及以下；颗粒状活性炭一般多为0.63-2.75mm，可根据需要制定。
2.水分：一般活性炭含水率在8%以下。
3.强度：水处理中使用的颗粒炭的强度应在90%以上。由于活性炭在使用中会产生粉末，随水带出，所以用在膜处理之前时，对活性炭强度应提出更高要求(95%)。
4.灰分：灰分主要与活性炭原材料有关，灰分高的活性炭不但吸附能力下降，而且会增加溶出杂质量的机会，一般要求活性炭灰分低于5%。
5.充填密度：此值用于计算活性炭的购买量。但从该值的大小也可以看出活性炭孔隙的多少，一般为0.4-0.5g/cm3，数值低的，相对而言孔比较发达，但漂浮损失会上升。
6.漂浮率：在水中漂浮的活性炭使用时要损失，所以活性炭漂浮率应控制在5%一下。
【活性炭的应用】：
1.颗粒状的活性炭在使用前要清洗去除粉尘，否则这些黑色的粉尘可能暂时会影响水质的清洁度。但建议不要直接用新鲜的自来水冲洗，因为活性炭的多孔隙一旦吸附大量自来水中的氯以及漂白粉，在随后放置到过滤器中使用时对水质造成的破坏。
2.靠平时简单的清洗是无法将活性炭的多孔隙中堵塞的杂物清洁干净的。所以，务必定期更换活性炭，以免活性炭因“吸附饱和”而失去功效。且更换的时机最好不要等它失效以后再更换，如此方可确保活性炭能不断地把水族箱水质中的有害物质去除。建议每月更换1-2次活性炭。
3.活性炭的处理水质的效率与其处理用量相关，通常为“用量多处理水质的效果也相对好”。
4.定量的活性炭被使用后，在使用初期应该经常观测水质的变化，并留意观测结果，以作为多长时间活性炭失效而更换的时间判断依据。
5.在使用治疗鱼病的药剂时，应该暂时将活性炭取出，暂停使用，以免药物被活性炭吸附而降低治疗效果。
6.活性炭在长期吸附有毒气体时要，经常拿出室外释放。如果长时间吸附会自已把吸附的有毒气体释放出来。活性炭本身不分解有毒气体，作用就像开窗，有毒室内最重要的还是要多多开窗。
在大量加入活性炭的场合，需要引起注意的是，活性炭在沉淀池中沉淀不够充分或因粉状活性炭未凝聚而漏出沉淀池的问题，因为出现泄漏就会导致所谓的黑水出现，故需充分注意。
由于粉状活性炭非常容易飞散，所以粉状活性炭的操作现场最好与其它设备隔开设置。因为粉状活性炭一接触电器系统，就会产生绝缘不良现象。因此，在进行设计时，就要对此加以慎重地考虑，以便使活性炭加料设备获得万无一失的好效果。
【运输注意事项】：
1.活性炭在运输过程中，防止与坚硬物质混装，不可踩、踏，以防颗粒状活性炭粒破碎，粉状活性炭包装破损，影响质量。
2.储存 应储存于多孔型吸附剂，所以在运输储存和使用过程中，都要绝对防止水浸，因水浸后，大量水充满活性空隙，使其失去作用。
3.防止焦油类物质 在使用过程中，应禁止焦油类物质带入活性炭床，以免堵塞活性炭空隙，使其失去吸附作用。最好有除焦设备净化气体。
4.防火 活性炭在储存或运输时，防止与火源直接接触，以防着火、活性炭再生时避免进氧并再生彻底，再生后必须用蒸汽冷却降至80℃以下，否则温度高，遇氧，活性炭自燃。
【包装及贮存】：
活性炭产品为编织袋包装,内衬聚乙烯塑料薄膜，每袋净重25kg.
产品贮存时应放置于阴凉干燥处，不得与有毒、有害、有异味的产品混合存放。
